Creemore Takes Game Five; Can They Win Another Championship?

September 22, 2007, 7:30 p.m.

The Creemore Braves are up three games to two after winning today's game 4-3 against New Lowell at Gowan Memorial Park. But for the first few innings Creemore was up against some tough competition.

New Lowell started the game, scoring two runs in the first inning and added another run in the third inning. Creemore was not able to gain a run until New Lowell's defence faltered in the fourth inning allowing three to cross the plate to tie the game. Creemore would score one more in the sixth and the defence held in the top of the seventh to prevent New Lowell from scoring again.

Pitching for Creemore was Brad Grieveson. Grieveson gave up only eight hits while walking one and striking out two. Pete Baldry was on the hill for New Lowell, giving up nine hits, walking three and striking out four.

Both teams were evenly matched with just one hit separating them. Allan Brownridge and Brad Imber both had two hits for New Lowell, while team mates Sean Connor, Todd Patton, Bernie Young and Lance Bryan had one apiece.

For Creemore, Chris Greer and Chris Hayward led the way with two hits each, while Jeff Akitt, Todd Gowan, Steve Westbrooke, Darryl Fremlin, and Jason Thompson had a base hit.

The Championship Series concludes tomorrow with Game six at New Lowell Recreation Park at 12 noon and if necessary Game seven will follow at New Lowell park.

League Secretary and Series Convenor Scott Anderson will have the Challenge Cup - the trophy for the victorious team - on display tomorrow and will present the 76 year old cup to the winners.
