Braves Up Two Games On Knights
September 8, 2008
The championship series of the North Dufferin Baseball League started this past weekend with games one and two being played. The Creemore Braves won both games over the New Lowell Knights by scores of 4-0 and 3-2 respectively.
The first game was played on Saturday at Gowan Memorial Park in Creemore where the Braves outplayed New Lowell. Both teams were kept off the scoreboard over the first two innings until Creemore's Bryan Post plated a run in the third inning. The Knights could not recover allowing two more runs by Chris Greer and Tom Gateman in the fourth frame on some sloppy plays, and then surrendered another in the fifth when Steve Westbrooke scored. The Knights were unable to muster up a run and lost the contest 4-0.
Creemore's starting pitcher Brad Grieveson pitched a complete game allowing no runs, giving up nine hits, walking one, and striking out seven New Lowell batters. Jesse MacIntyre pitched for New Lowell and over his six innings gave up four runs on five hits, walked seven while striking out four Creemore batters.
Getting hits for New Lowell were Lance Bryan and Brandon Norrie each with two singles, Todd Patton, Steve Baldry, Rob Skidmore, MacIntyre, and Ryan Martin with one a piece. Chris Greer, Bryan Post, Todd Gowan, Rob Perkins and Dan Gowan all singled for Creemore.
In game two the Braves also defeated the Knights by a score of 3-2. With the game scheduled to be played at New Lowell, rain forced the game to be played back at Creemore with the Knights as home team. Creemore got out to an early 3-0 lead with runs scored by Greer, Westbrooke and Post in the first, which remained the same until Knights' Sean Connor homered in the third inning. New Lowell held Creemore over the next four innings and mounted a solid offence in the sixth frame when Connor hit his second home run of the game. New Lowell also managed to load the bases but was unable to capitalize.
New Lowell's Brandon Norrie pitched all seven innings allowing three runs on six hits, walked one and only struck out one Brave. Brett Trott started the pitching chore for Creemore who over five and one third innings gave up two runs on three hits, walked three and struck out six batsmen for the win. Grieveson came in relief for Trott in the sixth inning allowing no runs, no hits and struck out two New Lowell batters.
Only three hits were recorded for the Knights with a single by Brad Imber and the two home runs by Connor. For Creemore, Greer, Post, Perkins and Grieveson each had hits with Dan Gowan having two.
The series continues this coming weekend with game three being played at the Lisle baseball diamond starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and Game four at New Lowell also at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
