New Lowell Knights Even Championship Series

September 15, 2008

Games three and four of the North Dufferin Baseball League championship series were played this past weekend, where the New Lowell Knights won both games over the Creemore Braves by scores of 2-1 and 1-0, tying the series at two games a piece.

Todd Patton of the Knights hits his second home run of the series in game four.
Game three took place on Saturday afternoon at Lisle's Ross Houston Memorial Park, with Creemore as home team. The game remained scoreless through three innings of play until Ryan Bartley scored for Creemore in the fourth inning. The Knights' bats came alive in the sixth when Todd Patton hit a home run to give New Lowell their first run and then Dale Lightheart managed to plate another run with help from his team mates. The score would remain 2-1 for New Lowell for the final inning.

Starting pitcher for Creemore, Matt Baldry, recorded the loss giving up two runs on three hits over his five and one third innings. He would also walk two batters, hit one batsman and strike out three. Reliever Brett Trott pitched the remaining one and two thirds innings, allowing no runs, giving up two hits, walked one and struck out three batters. New Lowell's Jesse MacIntyre pitched a complete game giving up one run on nine hits, walked two, hit one batter and struck out five Braves for the win.

Recording hits for the Knights were Sean Connor, Lance Bryan and Ryan Martin each with singles and Bernie Young had two, while Patton singled and homered. For Creemore, Jeff Akitt, Rob Perkins and Dan Gowan had one hit each, while Chris Greer and Steve Westbrooke both had two. Todd Gowan would single and double in the game.

Brandon Norrie of New Lowell, pitches a complete game Sunday shutting out Creemore allowing no runs and only two hits.
With Sunday's game four being played back at the Lisle diamond due to wet field conditions at New Lowell, the Knights would again defeat the Braves by a score of 1-0. In the quick played game, both pitchers would not give an inch, until New Lowell's Todd Patton hit his second home run of the series in the fourth inning. The run would stand the rest of the game to tie the series.

Brandon Norrie pitched for the Knights and over the seven innings, gave up no runs on two hits, walked two and struck out two for the win. Creemore's Brad Grieveson was on the mound for the Braves, and over his six innings allowed the one run, on two hits, struck out two and walked only one batter.

Akitt and Tom Gateman singled for Creemore, while Connor and Patton both had hits, the home run being Patton's.

The championship series will resume next weekend, with game five Saturday at Creemore starting at 1 p.m. Game six, and game seven, if necessary, will be played at New Lowell on Sunday starting at 12 noon.
