August 20, 2012

The Creemore Braves of the North Dufferin Baseball League won their first junior title since 1996 over the weekend. The team went undefeated during the three-day Junior 'C' playoff tournament held at Richmond Hill.

The Braves won their first game against Ancaster 8-6 and followed it up with wins against Tillsonburg 12-2, Cambridge 9-2, and Vaughan 10-7, before meeting Tillsonburg again in the championship. Creemore faltered in the first inning of the championship game, falling behind 4-0, but bounced back to win the contest in extra innings 5-4.

Two other NDBL teams were at Richmond Hill, which included the hosts and Orillia Minors. Orillia was knocked out after two losses to Brampton 6-2 and Vaughan 3-2. Richmond Hill played three games, losing their first to Mississauga 8-3, beating Ancaster 2-0, and in their third game suffered a loss to Vaughan 4-3 eliminating them from the tournament.

The Junior 'B' tournament at Chatham included the Barrie Red Sox. The Red Sox made the semi-finals but were put out by a dominant Walker Homesites (Windsor) team 10-6. Barrie lost their first game Friday to Peterborough 6-3, but remained alive with victories over London 11-9, Dresden 13-3 and Dundas 6-3 before their loss in the semis.

Georgetown took the championship 'B' title after defeating Walker Homesites in two games.
