Juniors play weekend championship

August 9, 2013

An upcoming weekend of baseball will decide the junior division champions of the North Dufferin League.

Barrie Red Sox, Orillia Minors, and Alliston Athletics, the three remaining junior teams in the playoffs, will play a double-knockout elimination tournament in Barrie on Saturday and Sunday.

A draw conducted earlier in the week has Orillia receiving a bye for the first round and Barrie playing Alliston in the first match at noon Saturday. Orillia will then play back-to-back games with the two teams at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Sunday action begins at 1 p.m. and if necessary a final game will be played at 3:30 p.m.

All games will be played at Barrie's Lennox Park, 319 Big Bay Point Road.

The junior division playoffs began July 24 with Barrie receiving a bye into the finals. Creemore Braves and Alliston met in the one series, with the Athletics winning the best of three series in two games.

The series between Orillia and the Stayner Sluggers started late and went four games to decide a winner. Orillia won two games and with a tie gained the four points to take the series.
