The New Lowell Knights have a 2-1 game lead over the Ivy Leafs in the North Dufferin Baseball League championship series after a game three win on Saturday.
The series, which is only played on weekends, started two weeks ago with games one and two played on August 29 and 30. The Leafs won the first contest 3-2 and the Knights took game two 7-2.
The series resumed Saturday, as both teams participated at provincial championships last weekend. The Knights won the 'AA' title going undefeated in five games, while Ivy bowed out early in the 'B' tournament.
In game three action, played at New Lowell, and behind a commanding pitching performance of Brandon Norrie, the Knights took an early lead when Sean Thompson plated a run on an Andrew Willmetts single in the second inning. New Lowell would score five more runs in the sixth frame and not allow a run against to take the game 6-0.
Norrie pitched seven innings, allowing no runs, only five hits, no walks while striking out eight batters.
Mike Kazienko started on the mound for Ivy going 5 2/3 innings allowing six runs on seven hits, walked six and fanned three Knights. Chad Watters completed the last out for his 1/3 inning of work.
Recording hits for the Knights were Sean Connor, Chris Greer, Thompson, Jesse Metheral and Willmetts.
The Leafs had hits from Jeremy Fernandez, Dave Reid, Jarrett Vanderpost and Watters.
Game four was postponed on Sunday due to wet field conditions at the Ivy diamond. The schedule will continue next weekend with game four played September 19.
