New Lowell and Ivy to play for senior title

August 25, 2015

The New Lowell Knights and Ivy Leafs have advanced to the championship series of the North Dufferin Baseball League senior division after winning their second round series.

The Knights met the Mansfield Cubs in the first round and handily took the series in three games. The second series was a different story with tough competition from the Orangeville Giants.

In all, the series with Orangeville required six games. New Lowell picked up an easy two points for the first game as the Giants lacked enough players and had to forfeit. Orangeville took the second game 2-0 and the fifth game 13-11, while New Lowell picked up wins of 12-2 for game four and 10-4 in game six. The teams tied in game three at 2-2.

Ivy only needed three games in their first series to beat the Barrie Angels. In second round action they met the Clearview Orioles with the Leafs picking up an 8-1 win in game one. Clearview managed a game two win by a score of 4-3, but Ivy finished the series with 8-1 and 15-10 victories.

The Leafs are defending league champions and finished the regular season in third place. New Lowell finished the season in first place and last appeared in the finals in 2012.

First game in the series starts Saturday in New Lowell at 11 a.m. Game two will follow in Ivy on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The two teams will break for the Labour Day weekend to attend provincial championships and return to league action on September 12.
