Knights and Giants to battle for Strother Cup
August 26, 2016
The New Lowell Knights and Orangeville Giants will meet for the best-of-seven championship series in the North Dufferin Baseball League.
First game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 27) in New Lowell with game two in Orangeville Sunday (Aug. 28) at 2 p.m.
The series will come to a halt over the Labour Day weekend as area teams, including the Knights and Giants attend provincial championships. Games resume September 10.
Orangeville upset the Ivy Leafs to advance to the finals after taking the series with three games to one with a tie. The Giants defeated the Clearview Orioles in first round action in a five game series.
New Lowell won their second round series against the Aurora Jays with three wins and a tie, while they took opening round action 3-0 over the Bolton Dodgers.
The Knights were Strother Cup champions last season.
A team from Orangeville has not made the finals since 1990. It was also the only year Orangeville has captured a league title.
Schedules and results will be updated on the league website during the series.
