Playoffs move on to round two
August 15, 2022
The pairings have been set for the second round of playoffs for senior teams in the North Dufferin Baseball League. After a recent break this weekend, teams start the series tomorrow (Aug.16).
In one of the best first round playoffs in recent memory that saw three of four series go to a final fifth game and the other four games, the second round may prove just as competitive.
The one series will feature the New Lowell Knights and Midland Mariners.
New Lowell faced the Creemore Padres in opening round action losing to Creemore 5-3 and 6-1 in Games 1 and 4. They picked up a 12-1 and 5-1 win in Games 2 and 3 before sealing the deal with an 8-3 win in Game 5.
Midland advanced after defeating the Clearview Orioles in four games. Midland won the first two games, 7-4 and 6-1, tied 3-3 with the Orioles for Game 3 and won the last contest 7-6.
This is the Mariners first appearance in the second round since 2005.
The other series pits the second-place Bolton Brewers against the third-place Ivy Rangers.
Bolton bested the Barrie Angels in five games in a back-and-forth series. The Brewers won the first game 1-0, the third game 10-0 and the last game 10-2. The Angels took Games 2 and 4 by scores of 6-4 and 11-1.
Ivy defeated the Lisle Astros in the first round. The Astros won the first two games 9-6 and 10-2 with the Rangers winning three straight 7-4, 10-0, and 6-3 to advance.
This is the Rangers first appearance in the second round since the team entered the league in 2017.
Both series open with a game tomorrow (Aug. 16) night. Midland travels to New Lowell for 6:15 p.m. while Ivy hosts the first game also at 6:15 .p.m.
On Thursday, Ivy is in Bolton for 7 p.m. and New Lowell is in Midland for 7:30 p.m.
